The '''Lozva''' ({{langx|ru|Лозьва}}; [Northern Mansi](/source/Northern_Mansi): Лӯсум-я̄, ''Lūsum-jā'') is a river in [Sverdlovsk Oblast](/source/Sverdlovsk_Oblast) in [Russia](/source/Russia). At its confluence with the [Sosva](/source/Sosva_(river)), the [Tavda](/source/Tavda_(river)) is formed. The river is {{convert|637|km|mi}} long, and its [basin](/source/Drainage_basin) covers {{convert|17800|km2|mi2}}.<ref name=gvr>{{GVR|197080|Река Лозьва}}</ref> The river freezes up in October or early November and stays icebound until late April or early May. Its main tributaries are the [Pynovka](/source/Pynovka), [Bolshaya Yevva](/source/Bolshaya_Yevva), [Ponil](/source/Ponil_(river)), and [Ivdel](/source/Ivdel_(river)).<ref>[http://bse.sci-lib.com/article071152.html Лозьва], [Great Soviet Encyclopedia](/source/Great_Soviet_Encyclopedia)</ref>

In 1590 a fort was built at Lozvinsk on the river to guard the [Cherdyn Route](/source/Cherdyn_Route) which ran over the Urals from the [Vishera](/source/Vishera_(Perm_Krai)) to the Lozva. That outpost was endangered by a Mansi chieftain from [Pelym](/source/Pelym%2C_Garinsky_District%2C_Sverdlovsk_Oblast). Lozvinsk and the Cherdyn route were abandoned after 1597 when a better route, called the [Babinov Road](/source/Babinov_Road), was found through [Verkhoturye](/source/Verkhoturye). The [Dyatlov Pass incident](/source/Dyatlov_Pass_incident) took place near the Lozva in 1959.
