Love146 was founded in 2002,<ref name="two">{{Cite web|url=http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/20-1168284/love146.aspx|title=Guidestar|last=|first=|date=|website=www.guidestar.org|access-date=2020-02-27}}</ref> when the group's co-founders, Rob Morris, Lamont Hiebert, Desirea Rodgers, and Caroline Hahm, went on an exploratory trip to [Southeast Asia](/source/Southeast_Asia) to see how they could help combat [child trafficking](/source/Trafficking_of_children). According to Love146, as part of an undercover operation, investigators took several co-founders into a [brothel](/source/brothel) where they witnessed young girls being sold for sex. The girls were given identification numbers pinned to their dresses. One girl in particular stood out. Her number was 146.<ref name="three">{{Cite web|url=https://love146.org/love-story/|title=The Love146 Story|website=Love146|language=en-US|access-date=2019-10-17}}</ref> The co-founders returned to the US and began Love146.  

Prior to the establishing of Love146, co-founder and president, Rob Morris, worked with [Mercy Ships](/source/Mercy_Ships) International.
