'''Louis Kamper''' (March 11, 1861 – February 24, 1953)<ref name=LouisKamperatFindaGrave>Louis Kamper [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/19095851 at Find-A-Grave], Retrieved on July 8, 2009</ref> was an [American](/source/Americans) [architect](/source/architect), active in and around [Detroit](/source/Detroit) and [Wayne County, Michigan](/source/Wayne_County%2C_Michigan), in the United States.

==Project range==
In the early 20th century, with the major development of Detroit's [Washington Boulevard](/source/Washington_Boulevard_Historic_District) launched by the Book brothers, Louis Kamper was called to redesign the street wall of the area.<ref name="HD">[http://www.historicdetroit.org/building/book-tower-and-book-building/ Book Tower and Book Building]. ''Historic Detroit''. Retrieved on November 8, 2013.</ref> As a result, the boulevard is now lined with several Kamper-designed buildings: the Book Building (1916), the [Washington Boulevard Building](/source/Washington_Boulevard_Building) (1922–23), the [Book-Cadillac Hotel](/source/Westin_Book_Cadillac_Hotel) (1924), the [Book Tower](/source/Book_Tower) (1926), and the [Industrial Building](/source/Industrial_Building_(Detroit)) (1928). Other downtown works include the [Cadillac Square Building](/source/Cadillac_Square_Building) (1918), demolished in 1978, and the [Water Board Building](/source/Water_Board_Building_(Detroit%2C_Michigan)) (1928), one of his finest skyscrapers.

His residential architectural projects include the [Châteauesque style](/source/Ch%C3%A2teauesque) [Col. Frank J. Hecker House](/source/Col._Frank_J._Hecker_House) in Detroit,<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/19990429171204/http://www.cr.nps.gov/nr/travel/detroit/d29.htm National Park Service: Colonel Frank Hecker House]</ref> and the [Italian Renaissance Revival style](/source/Renaissance_Revival_architecture) Murray Sales House (1917) in [Grosse Pointe](/source/Grosse_Pointe), Michigan.{{refn|group=note|The Murray Sales House, located at 251 Lincoln Road in Grosse Pointe, was later altered from the original design.}}

Louis Kamper styled the four [architectural sculpture](/source/architectural_sculpture)s above the Michigan Avenue entrance to the Book-Cadillac Hotel which are, from left to right: Anthony Wayne, Antoine Cadillac, Chief Pontiac, and Robert Navarre.<ref name=NavarreArms>Lloyd, Marshall Davies (August 20, 2006).[http://www.mlloyd.org/gen/navarre/text/arms.htm Navarre Arms].
