**Louis Hamelin** (born June 9, 1959 in [Saint-Séverin-de-Proulxville](/source/Saint-S%C3%A9verin%2C_Mauricie%2C_Quebec), Quebec)[1] is a Canadian journalist and fiction writer.[2] He won the [Governor General's Award for French-language fiction](/source/Governor_General's_Award_for_French-language_fiction) in 1989 for his novel *La Rage*,[1] and was nominated for the same award in 1995 for his novel *Betsi Larousse, ou l'ineffable eccéité de la loutre* and in 2006 for his short story collection *Sauvages*.

Having graduated from [McGill University](/source/McGill_University) and the [Université du Québec à Montréal](/source/Universit%C3%A9_du_Qu%C3%A9bec_%C3%A0_Montr%C3%A9al),[1] he has also worked as a journalist and literary critic for *[Le Devoir](/source/Le_Devoir)*.[1]

His 2010 novel *La Constellation du Lynx*, a fictionalized account of the 1970 [October Crisis](/source/October_Crisis), won numerous literary awards in Quebec, including the Prix littéraire des collégiens, the Prix des libraires du Québec, the Grand Prix littéraire de la Presse québécoise and the [Prix Ringuet](/source/Prix_Ringuet).[3] An English translation by [Wayne Grady](/source/Wayne_Grady_(author)), titled *October 1970*, was published in 2013 and was named a longlisted nominee for that year's [Scotiabank Giller Prize](/source/Scotiabank_Giller_Prize).[4]
