**Lord John Edward FitzRoy** (24 September 1785 – 28 December 1856), was a British politician.

## Background and education

FitzRoy was the sixth son of [Augustus FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Grafton](/source/Augustus_FitzRoy%2C_3rd_Duke_of_Grafton), [Prime Minister of Great Britain](/source/Prime_Minister_of_Great_Britain), by his second wife [Elizabeth Wrottesley](/source/Elizabeth_Wrottesley), daughter of the [Very Reverend](/source/Very_Reverend) [Sir Richard Wrottesley, 7th Baronet](/source/Sir_Richard_Wrottesley%2C_7th_Baronet), [Dean of Worcester](/source/Dean_of_Worcester). He was the half-brother of [George FitzRoy, 4th Duke of Grafton](/source/George_FitzRoy%2C_4th_Duke_of_Grafton), and [Lord Charles FitzRoy](/source/Lord_Charles_FitzRoy_(British_Army_officer)) and the full brother of [Admiral](/source/Admiral) [Lord William FitzRoy](/source/Lord_William_FitzRoy).[1] He was educated at [Harrow](/source/Harrow_School) and [Trinity College, Cambridge](/source/Trinity_College%2C_Cambridge).[2]

## Public life

FitzRoy was returned to Parliament for [Thetford](/source/Thetford_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in 1812 (succeeding his brother Lord William), a seat controlled by the FitzRoy family, and was a supporter of the [Whig](/source/Whigs_(British_political_party)) opposition. He was not re-elected in 1818 but returned to the House of Commons in 1820 as one of two representatives for [Bury St Edmunds](/source/Bury_St_Edmunds_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) (succeeding his nephew [Lord Euston](/source/Henry_FitzRoy%2C_5th_Duke_of_Grafton)), another seat controlled by the family. He continued to represent the constituency until 1826.[1]

## Personal life

FitzRoy never married. He died in December 1856, aged 71.[1]
