**Lorcan Finnegan** is an Irish filmmaker, writer, producer and director. He is most notable for directing the film *[Vivarium](/source/Vivarium_(film))* (2019), which won the [2019 Cannes Film Festival](/source/2019_Cannes_Film_Festival) Gan Foundation Support for Distribution award.

## Education and career

Lorcan Finnegan graduated with a master's degree in Graphic Design from his studies in Dublin.[1] He began his professional career in London, joining [Charlie Brooker](/source/Charlie_Brooker)'s production company Zeppotron,[2] which created the television series *[Black Mirror](/source/Black_Mirror)*, where he worked as a designer, editor, and then director.[1]

Returning to the Irish capital in 2004, he set up his own company Lovely Productions, and began to write and direct advertising films, music videos and short films.[1] His transition to feature films was with the film *Without Name* (2016), a horror-tinged mystery, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2016.[1][3]

He directed the film *[Vivarium](/source/Vivarium_(film))* (2019), which starred [Imogen Poots](/source/Imogen_Poots) and [Jesse Eisenberg](/source/Jesse_Eisenberg), and won the [2019 Cannes Film Festival](/source/2019_Cannes_Film_Festival) Gan Foundation Support for Distribution award.[4][5]

He next directed *[Nocebo](/source/Nocebo_(film))* (2022)[6] and *[The Surfer](/source/The_Surfer_(2024_film))* (2024),[7] which starred [Nicolas Cage](/source/Nicolas_Cage), and was featured in the Limelight section of the [54th International Film Festival Rotterdam](/source/54th_International_Film_Festival_Rotterdam).[8]
