Longjumeau is the setting for the [opera-comique](/source/opera-comique) ''[Le postillon de Lonjumeau](/source/Le_postillon_de_Lonjumeau)'' by [Adolphe Adam](/source/Adolphe_Adam) where it is presented as an early 19th-century rural community.  The opera was first performed in Paris at the [Opéra-Comique](/source/Op%C3%A9ra-Comique) on 13 October 1836. Performances followed in London at the [St. James Theatre](/source/St._James_Theatre) on 13 March 1837, and in New Orleans at the [Théâtre d'Orléans](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_d'Orl%C3%A9ans) on 19 April 1838.
