He was originally a member of the [IFAF](/source/International_Federation_of_American_Football)/[USA Football](/source/USA_Football) International Student Program,[1] before entering [college football](/source/College_football) after his arrival in the United States in 2007. He tried out for the [Jacksonville Jaguars](/source/Jacksonville_Jaguars) during the [2012 NFL offseason](/source/2012_NFL_season). ## Early life Ding is a native of [Qingdao](/source/Qingdao), [China](/source/China). ## College career After his arrival in the US, [Dean College](/source/Dean_College) in [Franklin, Massachusetts](/source/Franklin,_Massachusetts) was the first team that Ding represented before moving onto [Norwich University](/source/Norwich_University) in [Northfield, Vermont](/source/Northfield,_Vermont).[2] In 2011, while still a student at [Norwich University](/source/Norwich_University), Ding was named a finalist for the [Fred Mitchell Award](/source/Freddie_Mitchell).[3] At Norwich, Ding attempted sixteen [field goals](/source/Field_goal_(American_and_Canadian_football)), making thirteen, with the longest distance to goal measured at 51 yards (47 m).[4] Ding was also active as a [defensive player](/source/Defensive_line#Defensive_line), recording nineteen [tackles](/source/Tackle_(American_football)), six [tackles for loss](/source/Tackles_for_loss#American_and_Canadian_football) and three [sacks](/source/Quarterback_sack). ## Professional career Ding was scouted during the [NFL Regional Combine](/source/NFL_Scouting_Combine#Regional_combines) in New York City, as well as the NFL Super Regional Combine in [Detroit](/source/Detroit). He later went on to go undrafted in the [2012 NFL draft](/source/2012_NFL_draft). In May 2012, Ding was invited to a tryout at rookie mini-camp for the [Jacksonville Jaguars](/source/Jacksonville_Jaguars), along with twenty-six others.[5][6][7][8][9][10] Ding stated that he just wants to show the [NFL](/source/NFL) that he has the ability to kick at that level.[11][12] The Jaguars did not sign Ding to a contract. ## References 1.
