In 1979 [NBC](/source/NBC) partnered with the [BBC](/source/BBC) to commission ''[The Martian Chronicles](/source/The_Martian_Chronicles_(TV_miniseries))'', a three-episode miniseries adaptation running just over four hours. It was written by [Richard Matheson](/source/Richard_Matheson) and was directed by [Michael Anderson](/source/Michael_Anderson_(director)). The story "The Messiah" was incorporated into the mini-series and rewritten to be part of "The Martian" segment.
