'''Loellingite''', also spelled '''löllingite''', is an [iron](/source/iron) [arsenide mineral](/source/arsenide_mineral) with formula FeAs2. It is often found associated with [arsenopyrite](/source/arsenopyrite) (FeAsS) from which it is hard to distinguish. [Cobalt](/source/Cobalt), [nickel](/source/nickel) and [sulfur](/source/sulfur) substitute in the structure. The [orthorhombic](/source/orthorhombic) lollingite group includes the [nickel](/source/nickel) iron arsenide [rammelsbergite](/source/rammelsbergite) and the cobalt iron arsenide [safflorite](/source/safflorite). '''Leucopyrite''' is an old synonym for loellingite.

It forms opaque silvery white [orthorhombic](/source/orthorhombic) prismatic crystals often exhibiting [crystal twinning](/source/crystal_twinning). It also occurs in anhedral masses and tarnishes on exposure to air. It has a [Mohs hardness](/source/Mohs_hardness) of 5.5 to 6 and a quite high [specific gravity](/source/specific_gravity) of 7.1 to 7.5. It becomes magnetic after heating.

Loellingite was first described in 1845 at the Lölling district in [Carinthia](/source/Carinthia_(state)), [Austria](/source/Austria), for which it was named.

It occurs in mesothermal [ore deposit](/source/ore_deposit)s associated with skutterudite, native bismuth, [nickeline](/source/nickeline), nickel-skutterudite, [siderite](/source/siderite) and [calcite](/source/calcite). It has also been reported from [pegmatite](/source/pegmatite)s.<ref name=HBM/>
