American television producer and writer

**Liz Friedman** is an American [television producer](/source/Television_producer) and [television writer](/source/Screenwriting) known especially for her work on *[Xena: Warrior Princess](/source/Xena%3A_Warrior_Princess)*, *[Young Hercules](/source/Young_Hercules)*, *[House](/source/House_(TV_series))*, and *[Jessica Jones](/source/Jessica_Jones_(TV_series))*. In 2014, she was nominated for an [Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series](/source/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Writing_for_a_Comedy_Series) for co-writing the pilot episode of [Netflix](/source/Netflix) original series *[Orange Is the New Black](/source/Orange_Is_the_New_Black)*.

## Career

She wrote and produced episodes of *[Xena: Warrior Princess](/source/Xena%3A_Warrior_Princess)*, early in her writing career.[1][2] Friedman was co-creator, writer, and executive producer of *[Young Hercules](/source/Young_Hercules)*.[3] Soon after, she along with fellow *[House](/source/House_(TV_series))* writers, [Lawrence Kaplow](/source/Lawrence_Kaplow), [Leonard Dick](/source/Leonard_Dick), and Thomas L. Moran wrote episodes for *[Hack](/source/Hack_(TV_series))*. She wrote for *[The O.C](/source/The_O.C).* and *[Numbers](/source/Numbers_(TV_series))* before joining the writing staff of *House* in Season 2.[4]

Friedman graduated from the [Winsor School](/source/Winsor_School) in Boston, followed by [Wesleyan University](/source/Wesleyan_University) with a degree in sociology. Her thesis was entitled "A Feminist and Class-based Analysis of Slasher Films".[5][6]

She also co-wrote the pilot episode of [Netflix](/source/Netflix) original series *[Orange Is the New Black](/source/Orange_Is_the_New_Black)* with the creator of the show, [Jenji Kohan](/source/Jenji_Kohan). The two were nominated for an [Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series](/source/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Writing_for_a_Comedy_Series) for the episode in [2014](/source/66th_Primetime_Emmy_Awards).[7] Friedman also worked on the Netflix series *[Jessica Jones](/source/Jessica_Jones_(TV_series))*, which has been critically acclaimed after its first season 13 episodes, released in 2015.

She worked as an executive producer for *[The Good Doctor](/source/The_Good_Doctor_(American_TV_series))*.

Leick portrayed an over-the-top, chain-smoking version of Liz Friedman who was the cynical voice of reason amongst the producers.
