# Liv Nergaard

**Liv Nergaard** (April 17, 1924 – July 25, 2016)[1][2][3] was a [Norwegian](/source/Norwegians) painter, [textile artist](/source/Textile_arts), and sculptor.[4][5] She also created portraits and produced puppet performances for educational use.[1]

## Biography

Nergaard was born in [Oppegård](/source/Oppeg%C3%A5rd) in [Akershus](/source/Akershus) [county](/source/Counties_of_Norway), the daughter of Tordis Nergaard and Eivin Nickelsen.[1][2] She attended the [Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts](/source/Norwegian_National_Academy_of_Fine_Arts) from 1945 to 1946, and [Bergen Teacher Training College](/source/Bergen_Teacher_Training_College) (*Bergen lærerhøgskole*) from 1971 to 1972. In addition, she was a visiting student at the [Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry](/source/Norwegian_National_Academy_of_Craft_and_Art_Industry) (from 1943 to 1945 and again from 1952 to 1953) and at the [Illegal Academy](/source/Illegal_Academy) (*Det Illegale Akademi*) from 1943 to 1945.[1] In 1961 she settled in [Flosta](/source/Flosta) together with her husband, the sculptor [Finn Henrik Bodvin](/source/Finn_Henrik_Bodvin).[6] During these years, she worked actively as a sculptor; among other things, she participated twice in the [Autumn Exhibition](/source/H%C3%B8stutstillingen) (*Høstutstillingen*, in 1970 and 1976) and six times in the [Southern Norway Exhibition](/source/Southern_Norway_Exhibition) (*Sørlandsutstillingen*, between 1969 and 1981). She was active in the Arendal Puppet Theater (*Arendal figur og dukketeater*) and, together with [Ute de Lange Nilsen](/source/Ute_de_Lange_Nilsen) and others, was one of the initiators behind setting up the theater in 1969.[7][8]

Liv Nergaard participated in the artists' colony that developed in Flosta after the Second World War. Together with artists such as [Ferdinand Finne](/source/Ferdinand_Finne), [Ellen Iden](/source/Ellen_Iden), [Ivar Jerven](/source/Ivar_Jerven), [Kjerstin Øvrelid](/source/Kjerstin_%C3%98vrelid), [Knut Monrad](/source/Knut_Monrad), [Finn Strømsted](/source/Finn_Str%C3%B8msted), [Bodil Cappelen](/source/Bodil_Cappelen), and Finn Henrik Bodvin, an artistic environment was created that drew inspiration from nature and the [skerries](/source/Skerry). In the mid-1960s, six of these artists exhibited at the Skien Art Association (*Skiens Kunstforening*) as the Flosta Artists (*Flostakunstnerne*).[9]
