Whorls in ''Litoceras'' have a broadly{{Clarify|date=October 2009}} rounded cross section with its width greater than its height.  Litoceras somewhat resembles the [tarphyceratid](/source/Tarphyceratidae) ''Pionoceras'' from the same time, except for the [siphuncle](/source/siphuncle){{Clarify|date=October 2009}} being dorsal and in the center.
