**Lise Getoor** is an American computer scientist who is a distinguished professor and Baskin Endowed chair in the [Computer Science](/source/Computer_Science) and Engineering department,[1] at the [University of California, Santa Cruz](/source/University_of_California%2C_Santa_Cruz),[2] and an [adjunct professor](/source/Adjunct_professor) in the [Computer Science](/source/Computer_Science) Department[3] at the [University of Maryland, College Park](/source/University_of_Maryland%2C_College_Park).[4] Her primary research interests are in [machine learning](/source/Machine_learning) and reasoning with uncertainty, applied to graphs and structured data. She also works in [data integration](/source/Data_integration), [social network analysis](/source/Social_network_analysis) and [visual analytics](/source/Visual_analytics). She has edited a book on [Statistical relational learning](/source/Statistical_relational_learning) that is a main reference in this domain.[5] She has published many highly cited papers in academic journals and conference proceedings.[6][7][8][9] She has also served as action editor for the Machine Learning Journal, JAIR associate editor, and TKDD associate editor.

She received her [Ph.D.](/source/Ph.D.) from [Stanford University](/source/Stanford_University),[10] her [M.S.](/source/M.S.) from [UC Berkeley](/source/UC_Berkeley), and her [B.S.](/source/B.S.) from [UC Santa Barbara](/source/UC_Santa_Barbara). Prior to joining [University of California, Santa Cruz](/source/University_of_California%2C_Santa_Cruz), she was a [professor](/source/Professors_in_the_United_States#Professor) at the [University of Maryland, College Park](/source/University_of_Maryland%2C_College_Park) until November 2013.[11]

## Recognition

Getoor has multiple best paper awards, an [NSF](/source/National_Science_Foundation) Career Award, and is an [Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence](/source/Association_for_the_Advancement_of_Artificial_Intelligence) (AAAI) Fellow.[12] In 2019, she was elected as an [ACM Fellow](/source/ACM_Fellow) "for contributions to machine learning, reasoning under uncertainty, and responsible data science", [13] was selected as a Distinguished Alumna of the UC Santa Barbara Computer Science Department, [14] was awarded the UCSC WiSE Chancellor's Achievement Award for Diversity, [15] and was selected to give the UC Santa Cruz Faculty Research Lecture 2018-19, one of the highest recognitions given to UC faculty. [16] She was named an [IEEE Fellow](/source/IEEE_Fellow) in 2021, "for contributions to machine learning and reasoning under uncertainty".[17] In October 2022, Getoor was elected a Fellow of the [American Association for the Advancement of Science](/source/American_Association_for_the_Advancement_of_Science) (AAAS).[18] In 2024, she was named a Fellow of the [American Academy of Arts and Sciences](/source/American_Academy_of_Arts_and_Sciences) (AAA&S).[19] Also in 2024, she received the [ACM SIGKDD](/source/Special_Interest_Group_on_Knowledge_Discovery_and_Data_Mining) Innovation Award recognizing individuals with outstanding technical innovations in the field of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining that have had a lasting impact in advancing the theory and practice of the field.[20]
