**Lisa Claire Jeffrey** [FRSC](/source/Royal_Society_of_Canada) is a Canadian mathematician, a professor of mathematics at the [University of Toronto](/source/University_of_Toronto). In her research, she uses [symplectic geometry](/source/Symplectic_geometry) to provide rigorous proofs of results in [quantum field theory](/source/Quantum_field_theory).[1]

## Education and career

Jeffrey graduated from [Princeton University](/source/Princeton_University) in 1986.[1] She was awarded the [Marshall Scholarship](/source/Marshall_Scholarship) and obtained her doctorate from the [University of Oxford](/source/University_of_Oxford) in 1991, under the supervision of [Sir Michael Atiyah](/source/Sir_Michael_Atiyah).[2]

After working as postdoctoral researcher at the [Institute for Advanced Study](/source/Institute_for_Advanced_Study), she became an assistant professor at Princeton in 1992. She then moved to [McGill University](/source/McGill_University) in 1995, and became full professor at the University of Toronto in 1997.[3]

Jeffrey was the 2001 winner of the [Krieger–Nelson Prize](/source/Krieger%E2%80%93Nelson_Prize)[1] and the 2002 winner of the [Coxeter–James Prize](/source/Coxeter%E2%80%93James_Prize).[4] In 2007 she became a fellow of the [Royal Society of Canada](/source/Royal_Society_of_Canada),[5] and in 2012 she became a fellow of the [American Mathematical Society](/source/American_Mathematical_Society).[6] She was chosen to give the [Association for Women in Mathematics](/source/Association_for_Women_in_Mathematics)-[American Mathematical Society](/source/American_Mathematical_Society) 2017 [Noether Lecture](/source/Noether_Lecture) at the Joint Mathematics Meetings.[7]
