==Discovery and occurrence==

It was first described in 1935 for an occurrence in the [Chuquicamata Mine](/source/Chuquicamata), [Antofagasta](/source/Antofagasta), [Chile](/source/Chile), and named for Swedish–American [economic geologist](/source/Economic_geology) [Waldemar Lindgren](/source/Waldemar_Lindgren) (1860–1939) of the [Massachusetts Institute of Technology](/source/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology).<ref name=HBM/><ref name=Mindat/>

Lindgrenite occurs in the [oxidized](/source/Redox) portions of copper–molybdenum bearing sulfide ore deposits. Associated minerals include [antlerite](/source/antlerite), [molybdenite](/source/molybdenite), [powellite](/source/powellite), [brochantite](/source/brochantite), [chrysocolla](/source/chrysocolla), [iron oxide](/source/iron_oxide)s and [quartz](/source/quartz).<ref name=HBM/>
