**Lindenthal** (German: *Köln-Lindenthal* [\[ˈkœln ˈlɪndn̩ˌtaːl\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Standard_German); [Kölsch](/source/K%C3%B6lsch_language): *Lendethal* [\[ˈlêndəˌtaːl\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Colognian)) is a [borough](/source/Districts_of_Cologne) of the City of [Cologne](/source/Cologne) in Germany. It includes the quarters Braunsfeld, [Junkersdorf](/source/Junkersdorf), Klettenberg, Lindenthal, Lövenich, Müngersdorf, [Sülz](/source/S%C3%BClz), Weiden and Widdersdorf. It has about 153,000 inhabitants (as of December 2019) and covers an area of 41.8 square kilometers.

Many parts of Lindenthal are dominated by academic and research campuses, primarily linked to the [University of Cologne](/source/University_of_Cologne) and the [German Sport University](/source/German_Sport_University_Cologne). The latter has a campus at Sportpark Müngersdorf, next to [RheinEnergieStadion](/source/RheinEnergieStadion) and the [European College of Sport Science](/source/European_College_of_Sport_Science).

The Cologne University Hospital has a vast campus around the Kerpener Straße. Other institutions include the [Max Planck Institutes](/source/Max_Planck_Institute) for [Biology of Ageing](/source/Max_Planck_Institute_for_Biology_of_Ageing) and [Plant Breeding Research](/source/Max_Planck_Institute_for_Plant_Breeding_Research).

Cologne's [Melaten-Friedhof](/source/Melaten-Friedhof) is located on Aachener Straße.

## History

During the [Cold War](/source/Cold_War), the headquarters of the [I Belgian Corps](/source/I_Corps_(Belgium)) was located in Junkersdorf.

Lindenthal is served by numerous railway stations and highway. Train station include [Köln-Lövenich](/source/K%C3%B6ln-L%C3%B6venich_station), [Köln-Müngersdorf/Technologiepark](/source/K%C3%B6ln-M%C3%BCngersdorf_Technologiepark_station) and [Köln-Weiden West](/source/K%C3%B6ln-Weiden_West_station), as well as [numerous light rail stations](/source/List_of_Cologne_KVB_stations) of [Cologne Stadtbahn](/source/Cologne_Stadtbahn) lines 1, 7, 9, 13 and 18. Aachener Straße and Luxemburger Straße connect Lindenthal with the [Cologne Ring](/source/Cologne_Ring) and [Cologne Beltway](/source/Cologne_Beltway).
