# Limets Peninsula

**Limets Peninsula** (Bulgarian: полуостров Лимец, poɫuˈɔstrof liˈmɛt͡s) is the predominantly ice-free peninsula forming the northwest extremity of [Low Island](/source/Low_Island_(South_Shetland_Islands)) in the [South Shetland Islands](/source/South_Shetland_Islands). The feature is projecting 3.3 km northwards and 2.4 km wide. It is bounded by [Kazichene Cove](/source/Kazichene_Cove) and [Smochevo Cove](/source/Smochevo_Cove) to the west and [Berraz Bay](/source/Berraz_Bay) to the east, and ends in [Cape Wallace](/source/Cape_Wallace) to the north. The area was visited by early 19th century [sealers](/source/Seal_hunting).

## Name

The feature is named after the settlement of [Limets](/source/Limets) in Southern Bulgaria.

Limets Peninsula is centred at [63°14′50″S 62°11′40″W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=63_14_50_S_62_11_40_W). British mapping in 1968 and 2009.
