'''Ligny''' ({{IPA|fr|liɲi}}; {{langx|wa|Lignè}}) is a village of [Wallonia](/source/Wallonia) and a district of the [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_Belgium) of [Sombreffe](/source/Sombreffe), located in the [province of Namur](/source/Namur_Province), [Belgium](/source/Belgium).

Previously its own municipality, a 1977 [fusion of the Belgian municipalities](/source/fusion_of_the_Belgian_municipalities) made it an ''[ancienne commune](/source/Deelgemeente)'' of Sombreffe.

==History==
It is known as the site of the 1815 [Battle of Ligny](/source/Battle_of_Ligny), where [Napoleon](/source/Napoleon_I_of_France) achieved his last ever victory, defeating [Blücher](/source/Gebhard_Leberecht_von_Bl%C3%BCcher), while the forces of [Wellington](/source/Arthur_Wellesley%2C_1st_Duke_of_Wellington) and [Marshal Ney](/source/Michel_Ney) were engaging each other at the [Battle of Quatre Bras](/source/Battle_of_Quatre_Bras). Two days later, the combined forces of both opponents met at the [Battle of Waterloo](/source/Battle_of_Waterloo).
