**LifeWiki** is a [wiki](/source/Wiki) dedicated to [Conway's Game of Life](/source/Conway's_Game_of_Life).[1][2] It hosts over 2000 articles on the subject[3] and a large collection of Life patterns stored in a format based on [run-length encoding](/source/Run-length_encoding)[4] that it uses to interoperate with other Life software such as [Golly](/source/Golly_(program)).[5]

LifeWiki was founded in 2009 by Nathaniel Johnston, a professor of mathematics and computer science at [Mount Allison University](/source/Mount_Allison_University), as part of the ConwayLife site founded in 2008 by Johnston.[5][6] It serves as a focal point for one of the many mathematical communities [John Horton Conway](/source/John_Horton_Conway)'s work brought into being,[7] a starting point for Life enthusiasts to learn about new developments in Life patterns,[8] and a comprehensive listing of the many forms of [emergent behavior](/source/Emergence) that Life patterns are now known to have.[9]
