# Liepen

**Liepen** is a village and a former [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_Germany) in the [Vorpommern-Greifswald](/source/Vorpommern-Greifswald) district, in [Mecklenburg-Vorpommern](/source/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), [Germany](/source/Germany). Since 1 January 2014, it is part of the municipality [Neetzow-Liepen](/source/Neetzow-Liepen).

## History

From 1648 to 1720, Liepen was part of [Swedish Pomerania](/source/Swedish_Pomerania). From 1720 to 1945, it was part of the [Prussian](/source/Prussia) [Province of Pomerania](/source/Province_of_Pomerania_(1815%E2%80%931945)), from 1945 to 1952 of the State of [Mecklenburg-Vorpommern](/source/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), from 1952 to 1990 of the [Bezirk Neubrandenburg](/source/Bezirk_Neubrandenburg) of [East Germany](/source/East_Germany) and since 1990 again of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
