# Lieberose

**Lieberose** ([Lower Sorbian](/source/Lower_Sorbian_language): *Luboraz*) is a town in the [Dahme-Spreewald](/source/Dahme-Spreewald) district, in [Brandenburg](/source/Brandenburg), [Germany](/source/Germany). It is situated 25 km north of [Cottbus](/source/Cottbus).

## History

From 1815 to 1947, Lieberose was part of the [Prussian](/source/Prussia) [Province of Brandenburg](/source/Province_of_Brandenburg).

During [World War II](/source/World_War_II), [Lieberose forced labor camp](/source/Lieberose_forced_labor_camp), a subcamp of [Sachsenhausen concentration camp](/source/Sachsenhausen_concentration_camp) was located here.[2] (The subcamp, KL Lieberose, was a labour camp for the support point of SS- Division "Kurmark".[citation needed] The SS- Division "[Kurmark](/source/Kurmark)" located in Lieberose and surrounding area.[citation needed]

Near the end of the war, Jewish prisoners were sent on a [death march](/source/Death_march) towards Sachsenhausen.[3]

After World War II was the camp a prison camp for the soviet secret service (NKGB).[citation needed]

After [World War II](/source/World_War_II), Lieberose was incorporated into the State of [Brandenburg](/source/Brandenburg) from 1947 to 1952 and the [Bezirk Frankfurt](/source/Bezirk_Frankfurt) of [East Germany](/source/East_Germany) from 1952 to 1990. Since 1990, Lieberose is again part of Brandenburg.
