# Levaia

**Levaia** (Greek: Λεβαία, before 1926: Έλλεβη – *Ellevi*,[1] between 1926 and 1988: Λακκιά – *Lakkia*)[2] is a village in the region of [Florina](/source/Florina_(regional_unit)), northern [Greece](/source/Greece).[3] It belonged to the municipality of [Filotas](/source/Filotas) but after the application of the [Kallikratis Plan](/source/Kallikratis_Plan) in 2011 it got incorporated in the municipality of [Amyntaio](/source/Amyntaio).[2] According to the [2021 Greek census](/source/2021_Greek_census), the village had 660 inhabitants.

## Demographics

In statistics gathered by [Vasil Kanchov](/source/Vasil_Kanchov) in 1900, Elevi was populated by 700 Muslim [Turks](/source/Turkish_people).[4]

The 1920 Greek census recorded 986 people in the village, and 950 inhabitants (160 families) were Muslim in 1923.[5] Following the [Greek–Turkish population exchange](/source/Population_exchange_between_Greece_and_Turkey), [Greek refugee](/source/Greek_refugee) families in Elevi were from [East Thrace](/source/East_Thrace) (81), [Asia Minor](/source/Asia_Minor) (102) and [Pontus](/source/Pontus_(region)) (52) in 1926.[5] The 1928 Greek census recorded 1,002 village inhabitants.[5] In 1928, the refugee families numbered 232 (973 people).[5]
