# Leusdon

**Leusdon** is a parish in the southern part of [Dartmoor](/source/Dartmoor) in the county of [Devon](/source/Devon). It is situated about one [kilometer](/source/Kilometer) to the north of the village of [Poundsgate](/source/Poundsgate).

The village church is St John the Baptist, which was built in 1863.[1][2] The Irish-born parliamentarian, writer, and land reformer, Sir [Robert Richard Torrens](/source/Robert_Richard_Torrens) is buried within the graveyard of St Johns the Baptist Church together with his wife.[3]

Located nearby St John the Baptist Church is [Leusdon Common](/source/Leusdon_Common), which is a [site of special scientific interest](/source/Site_of_special_scientific_interest), and is part of the [Widecombe in the Moor](/source/Widecombe_in_the_Moor) parish.[4][5]
