# Lesser Matters

***Lesser Matters*** is the debut [studio album](/source/Studio_album) by Swedish [indie pop](/source/Indie_pop) band [The Radio Dept.](/source/The_Radio_Dept.) It was released on 4 March 2003 by [Labrador Records](/source/Labrador_Records).[1]

The song "Keen on Boys" was featured in [Sofia Coppola](/source/Sofia_Coppola)'s *[Marie Antoinette](/source/Marie_Antoinette_(2006_film))*, also appearing on the [soundtrack to the film](/source/Marie_Antoinette_(soundtrack)).[2] "Strange Things Will Happen" was also featured in *[The Fault in Our Stars](/source/The_Fault_in_Our_Stars_(film))*.[3]

## Music

The album's style is [dream pop](/source/Dream_pop), drawing additional influence from [noise pop](/source/Noise_pop) and classic [indie pop](/source/Indie_pop). [AllMusic](/source/AllMusic) compared the album's music to the works of [My Bloody Valentine](/source/My_Bloody_Valentine_(band)), [the Jesus and Mary Chain](/source/The_Jesus_and_Mary_Chain), [Orange Juice](/source/Orange_Juice_(band)), [Felt](/source/Felt_(band)), [the Cure](/source/The_Cure) and [New Order](/source/New_Order_(band)).[4]

## Critical reception

*Lesser Matters* received rave reviews from critics. The album holds a rating of 84 out of 100 on the review aggregation website [Metacritic](/source/Metacritic), indicating "universal acclaim".[5] It was ranked the ninth best album of 2004 by *[NME](/source/NME)*.[6] [AllMusic](/source/AllMusic) gave the album four stars out of five, praising the songwriting.[4]
