# Leslie Prentice

**Leslie Roff Vincent Prentice** (30 November 1886 – 13 August 1928) was an Australian-born English [cricketer](/source/Cricket).[1] A right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman) and right-arm [slow](/source/Fast_bowling) [bowler](/source/Bowler_(cricket)), he had a brief [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) career for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) in the early 1920s.[2]

## Biography

Prentice was born in [Fitzroy](/source/Fitzroy,_Victoria), a suburb of [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne), Victoria, on 30 November 1886.[2][3] He played twice for the [Federated Malay States](/source/Federated_Malay_States_cricket_team) against the [Straits Settlements](/source/Straits_Settlements_cricket_team) in 1913 and 1914.[4] He made his first-class debut in May 1920 when he played for Middlesex against [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club). In his second first-class match, a [County Championship](/source/County_Championship) match against [Warwickshire](/source/Warwickshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [Lord's](/source/Lord's),[5] he took 6/95 in the second [innings](/source/Innings#Cricket),[6] his only [five-wicket haul](/source/Five-wicket_haul) in first-class cricket.[2]

Prentice played three further County Championship matches for Middlesex in the [1920 season](/source/1920_English_cricket_season) before playing two matches for [H. D. G. Leveson Gower's XI](/source/H._D._G._Leveson-Gower) against Oxford University and [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club). He then played for the Gentlemen of the South against the Players of the South in July. During the [1921 season](/source/1921_English_cricket_season), he played six times for Middlesex before another two matches for H. D. G. Leveson Gower's XI against the two university teams.[5]

Prentice did not play for Middlesex in the [1922 season](/source/1922_English_cricket_season), playing just once for H. D. G. Leveson Gower's XI against Oxford University. He played his final first-class match in the [1923 season](/source/1923_English_cricket_season) when he played for Middlesex against Oxford University.[5] He died on 13 August 1928 in [Harrold, Bedfordshire](/source/Harrold,_Bedfordshire), at the age of 41.[2]
