# Les Wheeler

**Lester Wheeler** (1931 – August 12, 1989[1]) was an American [football](/source/American_football) player and coach. A [tackle](/source/Tackle_(gridiron_football_position)) from Abilene Christian College—now known as [Abilene Christian University](/source/Abilene_Christian_University)—he was selected by the [Philadelphia Eagles](/source/Philadelphia_Eagles) in the 21st round of the [1952 NFL draft](/source/1952_NFL_draft). After coaching at [Lamesa High School](/source/Lamesa_High_School) in [Lamesa, Texas](/source/Lamesa,_Texas), Wheeler returned to his alma mater in 1956 as line coach.[2] He was the ninth head football coach at Abilene Christian, serving for six seasons, from 1962 to 1967, and compiling a record of 30–27.[3]
