# Les Quirk

**Leslie Quirk** (born 6 March 1965) is an English former professional [rugby league](/source/Rugby_league) footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He played at club level for [Barrow](/source/Barrow_Raiders), [St. Helens](/source/St_Helens_R.F.C.) and [Whitehaven](/source/Whitehaven_R.L.F.C.), as a .

## Playing career

Born in [Ulverston](/source/Ulverston), Quirk started his amateur career at Dalton, and made his professional début for [Barrow](/source/Barrow_Raiders) in 1983. In 1987, he joined [St. Helens](/source/St_Helens_R.F.C.) for a fee of £55,000.[3]

Quirk played in St Helens' 15–14 victory over [Leeds](/source/Leeds_Rhinos) in the [1987–88 John Player Special Trophy](/source/1987%E2%80%9388_League_Cup_(rugby_league)) Final during the [1987–88 season](/source/1987%E2%80%9388_Rugby_Football_League_season) at [Central Park](/source/Central_Park_(Wigan)), [Wigan](/source/Wigan) on Saturday 9 January 1988. He also played in two [Challenge Cup](/source/Challenge_Cup) finals at [Wembley](/source/Wembley_Stadium_(1923)) for Saints in [1989](/source/1988%E2%80%9389_Challenge_Cup) and [1991](/source/1990%E2%80%9391_Challenge_Cup), but was on the losing side on both occasions.

Quirk also represented [Cumbria](/source/Cumbria_rugby_league_team), playing in an 18–13 victory over [France](/source/France_national_rugby_league_team) in October 1988,[4] and a 34–12 victory over [Papua New Guinea](/source/Papua_New_Guinea_national_rugby_league_team) in November 1991.[5]
