== Biography ==
Piggot was born in [Rutherglen](/source/Rutherglen) on 11 May 1942. He played rugby and competed in athletics at school but was involved in a serious car accident after leaving school.<ref name=oly>{{cite web|url=https://www.olympedia.org/athletes/69390 |title=Biographical Information |website=Olympedia |access-date=26 May 2025}}</ref>  

In 1968, Piggot married fellow sprinter Morag Carmichael. Piggot finished second behind [Brian Green](/source/Brian_Green_(athlete)) in the 100 metres event at the [1971 AAA Championships](/source/1971_AAA_Championships)<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.nuts.org.uk/Champs/AAA/index.htm |title=AAA, WAAA and National Championships Medallists |website=National Union of Track Statisticians |access-date=26 May 2025}}</ref> and on two further occasions finished third at both the [1972 AAA Championships](/source/1972_AAA_Championships) and [1973 AAA Championships](/source/1973_AAA_Championships).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.gbrathletics.com/bc/aaa.htm |title=AAA Championships (men) |website=GBR Athletics |access-date=26 May 2025}}</ref>

At the 1972 Olympics Games in [Munich](/source/Munich), he represented [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain_at_the_1972_Summer_Olympics) in the 100 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay.<ref name=oly/> At retirement he had represented Great Britain between 1965 and 1976 over 50 times and had won 14 medals at the Scottish Championships (the last in 1976 when he defeated [Allan Wells](/source/Allan_Wells)).<ref name=oly/>
