**Leptokarya** ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Λεπτοκαρυά, *Leptokarya*) is a [town](/source/Town) in [Pieria](/source/Pieria_(regional_unit)) [regional unit](/source/Regional_units_of_Greece), [Central Macedonia](/source/Central_Macedonia), [Greece](/source/Greece), former seat of [East Olympos](/source/East_Olympos) [municipality](/source/Municipality), which is part of the municipality of [Dion-Olympos](/source/Dion-Olympos). The distance from [Katerini](/source/Katerini) is 26 km and the population of the village was 3,612 inhabitants as of 2021.[1]

## Location

Lies on the coast of [Aegean Sea](/source/Aegean_Sea), under the [Mount Olympos](/source/Mount_Olympos). It is located near ancient [Leivithra](/source/Leivithra), allegedly the home of [Orpheus](/source/Orpheus), major figure in the [Greek Mythology](/source/Greek_Mythology). Since the major events and customs in the town is the revival of division of Orpheus.

## Tourism

Leptokarya is a popular tourist destination during the summer months due to its beaches, as well as due to its proximity to [Mount Olympus](/source/Mount_Olympus). The town houses [Olympus Geological History Museum](/source/Olympus_Geological_History_Museum) dedicated to the geology of the surrounding area.

## Transport

The town is served by [Leptokarya train station](/source/Leptokarya_railway_station), with local stopping services to [Thessaloniki](/source/Thessaloniki_railway_station), [Kalambaka](/source/Kalambaka_railway_station) and [Palaiofarsalos](/source/Palaiofarsalos_railway_station), and since 2008, by [Proastiakos Thessaloniki](/source/Proastiakos_Thessaloniki) to [Larissa](/source/Larissa_railway_station) and [Thessaloniki](/source/Thessaloniki_railway_station).
