Leonard Mudie Cheetham was born in [Cheetham Hill](/source/Cheetham_Hill), a suburb of [Manchester](/source/Manchester), England, the son of Thomas Hurst Cheetham and Lucy Amy Mudie. Mudie made his film debut in a [Boris Karloff](/source/Boris_Karloff) film, ''[The Mummy](/source/The_Mummy_(1932_film))'' in 1932. He moved to [Hollywood](/source/Hollywood%2C_Los_Angeles) in that year, and lived there for the rest of his life.<ref name=nyt/> He played a range of screen parts, some substantial, and others short cameos. Among the bigger roles were Dr Pearson in ''The Mummy'', Porthinos in ''[Cleopatra](/source/Cleopatra_(1934_film))'' (1934), Maitland in ''[Mary of Scotland](/source/Mary_of_Scotland_(film))'' (1936), and De Bourenne in ''[Anthony Adverse](/source/Anthony_Adverse)'' (1936). His small roles, according to ''[The New York Times](/source/The_New_York_Times)'', were typically "a bewigged, gimlet-eyed British judge".<ref name=nyt/>

Mudie made the postwar transition into television, and appeared in four episodes of ''[Adventures of Superman](/source/Adventures_of_Superman_(TV_series))'', in roles ranging from the comedic to the sinister.
