== Biography ==
Leon Clore was born in [Brighton](/source/Brighton) on 9 July 1918. He was the nephew of [Sir Charles Clore](/source/Sir_Charles_Clore), whose foundation enabled the [Tate Gallery](/source/Tate_Gallery), via the Clore Gallery, to adequately present the [William Turner](/source/J._M._W._Turner) estate.<ref name="death" />

Clore's film career began as the first assistant director for the British film ''The Silver Darlings'' in 1947. Up to 1951, Clore worked for the [Crown Film Unit](/source/Crown_Film_Unit) before taking charge of Basic Films. He first worked as a film producer in 1951, and was responsible for the documentary short film '' Sunday by the Sea''. Clore produced the romantic film ''[Virgin Island](/source/Virgin_Island_(film))'' (1958), directed by [Pat Jackson](/source/Pat_Jackson) and starring [John Cassavetes](/source/John_Cassavetes) and [Sidney Poitier](/source/Sidney_Poitier); ''[Morgan – A Suitable Case for Treatment](/source/Morgan_%E2%80%93_A_Suitable_Case_for_Treatment)'' (1966) starring [David Warner](/source/David_Warner_(actor)) and [Vanessa Redgrave](/source/Vanessa_Redgrave), the [Karel Reisz](/source/Karel_Reisz) directed [David Mercer](/source/David_Mercer_(playwright)) comedy; '' [All Neat in Black Stockings](/source/All_Neat_in_Black_Stockings)'' (1969) with Victor Henry in the leading role; and ''[The French Lieutenant's Woman](/source/The_French_Lieutenant's_Woman_(film))'' (1981) directed by [Karel Reisz](/source/Karel_Reisz), starring [Meryl Streep](/source/Meryl_Streep) and [Jeremy Irons](/source/Jeremy_Irons). His last involvement in the film business was in the documentary short "Your Degree and the Royal Navy?" in 1986.
