'''William Leo Jordan''' (December 29, 1929 – February 15, 2015) was a politician in Ontario, [Canada](/source/Canada). He was a [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Ontario) member of the [Legislative Assembly of Ontario](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Ontario) from 1990 to 1999.

==Background==
Jordan studied Public Administration at [Carleton University](/source/Carleton_University). He worked for thirty-nine years at [Ontario Hydro](/source/Ontario_Hydro), in the fields of operations, customer service, property and marketing. He was also a beef farmer, and served for a time as [reeve](/source/Reeve_(Canada)) of [Montague Township](/source/Montague%2C_Ontario) and a member of the [Lanark County](/source/Lanark_County%2C_Ontario) council. He died on February 15, 2015.<ref>{{cite news |title=Former MPP Leo Jordan dies at 85 |url=http://www.insideottawavalley.com/news-story/5342912-former-mpp-leo-jordan-dies-at-85/ |newspaper=Inside Ottawa Valley |publisher=Metroland Media |date=February 17, 2015}}</ref>

==Politics==
He was elected to the Ontario legislature in the [1990 provincial election](/source/1990_Ontario_general_election), defeating [Liberal](/source/Ontario_Liberal_Party) Guin Persaud by about 1,500 votes in the riding of [Lanark—Renfrew](/source/Lanark_(provincial_electoral_district)).<ref name="1990 results">{{cite news |title=Ontario election: Riding-by-riding voting results |newspaper=The Globe and Mail |date=September 7, 1990 |page=A12}}</ref> This election was won by the [Ontario New Democratic Party](/source/Ontario_New_Democratic_Party), and Jordan sat on the opposition benches for the next five years.

The PC party won the [1995 provincial election](/source/1995_Ontario_general_election), in which Jordan defeated his Liberal opponent by more than 10,000 votes.<ref name="1995 results">{{cite web |url=http://results.elections.on.ca/results/1995_results/valid_votes.jsp?e_code=36&rec=0&district=lanark-renfrew&flag=E&layout=G |title=Summary of Valid Ballots by Candidate |publisher=Elections Ontario |date=June 8, 1995 |accessdate=2014-03-02 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140331070802/http://results.elections.on.ca/results/1995_results/valid_votes.jsp?e_code=36&rec=0&district=lanark-renfrew&flag=E&layout=G |archivedate=March 31, 2014 }}</ref> In 1997 he was appointed as [Parliamentary Assistant](/source/Parliamentary_Assistant) to the [Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism](/source/Ministry_of_Economic_Development%2C_Trade_and_Employment_(Ontario)).

In 1996, the Harris government reduced the number of provincial ridings from 130 to 103. This meant that a number of sitting [Members of Provincial Parliament](/source/Member_of_Provincial_Parliament_(Ontario)) MPPs had to compete against one another for re-election. Jordan ran against veteran Liberal MPP [Sean Conway](/source/Sean_Conway_(Canadian_politician)) in the new riding of [Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke](/source/Renfrew%E2%80%94Nipissing%E2%80%94Pembroke_(provincial_electoral_district)) in the [1999 provincial election](/source/1999_Ontario_general_election), and lost by almost 6,000 votes.<ref name="1999 results">{{cite web|url=http://results.elections.on.ca/results/1999_results/valid_votes.jsp?e_code=37&rec=0&district=Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke&flag=E&layout=G |title=Summary of Valid Ballots by Candidate |publisher=Elections Ontario |date=June 3, 1999 |accessdate=2014-03-02 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140331070803/http://results.elections.on.ca/results/1999_results/valid_votes.jsp?e_code=37&rec=0&district=Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke&flag=E&layout=G |archivedate=March 31, 2014 }}</ref>

In 2000, Jordan sought the federal [Canadian Alliance](/source/Canadian_Alliance) nomination in [Lanark—Carleton](/source/Lanark%E2%80%94Carleton), but lost to [Scott Reid](/source/Scott_Reid_(Canadian_MP)).<ref name="2000results">{{cite news |title=Election Results |newspaper=Star - Phoenix |location=Saskatoon, SK|date=November 28, 2000 |page=A8}}</ref>

== Personal life ==
His son [John Jordan](/source/John_Jordan_(Canadian_politician)) was elected MPP for [Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston](/source/Lanark%E2%80%94Frontenac%E2%80%94Kingston_(provincial_electoral_district)) in the [2022 provincial election](/source/2022_Ontario_general_election).<ref>{{cite web |title=Jordan elected in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston |work=thewhig |url=https://www.thewhig.com/news/local-news/jordan-elected-in-lanark-frontenac-kingston}}</ref>
