'''Leonard George Richards''' (13 April 1911 — 27 December 1985) was a Welsh professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [full back](/source/Defender_(association_football)). He played in the [Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for [Cardiff City](/source/Cardiff_City_F.C.) and [Newport County](/source/Newport_County_A.F.C.) and in Ireland and Scotland for [Dundalk](/source/Dundalk_F.C.) and [Dundee](/source/Dundee_F.C.).

Richards, a Welsh schoolboy international,<ref name="dundalk">{{cite web |url=http://www.dundalkfcwhoswho.com/player.php?id=101 |title=Len Richards |website=dundalkfcwhoswho.com |access-date=3 December 2018}}</ref> began his career with [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C.) but was unable to break into the club's first team and left in 1932 having made no appearances. He joined [Cardiff City](/source/Cardiff_City_F.C.) and was handed his professional debut in October 1932 in a match against [Luton Town](/source/Luton_Town_F.C.) in which Cardiff suffered an 8–1 defeat. He remained with the club until the end of the season but made no further appearances before being released.<ref name="Hayes"/>

In November 1933, he signed for Irish side [Dundalk](/source/Dundalk_F.C.) as a replacement for Gordon McDiarmuid. Virtually ever present for the side, he was a losing finalist on three occasions in three different competitions during two seasons. His performances led to a call up to the [League of Ireland XI](/source/League_of_Ireland_XI) in 1935 where he played against a Welsh League XI. He signed for [Dundee](/source/Dundee_F.C.) in 1935 where he spent three seasons before following manager [Billy McCandless](/source/Billy_McCandless) to [Newport County](/source/Newport_County_A.F.C.) in 1938. In his first season, he helped the side win the [Third Division South](/source/Football_League_Third_Division_South) title before the outbreak of World War II brought an end to his professional career. During wartime, he played for [Lovell's Athletic](/source/Lovell's_Athletic_F.C.).<ref name="dundalk"/>
