# Len Maddocks

**Leonard Victor Maddocks** (24 May 1926 – 1 September 2016)[1][2] was an Australian [cricketer](/source/Cricket) and cricket administrator who played in seven [Tests](/source/Test_cricket) from 1954 to 1956. He was born in [Beaconsfield, Victoria](/source/Beaconsfield,_Victoria). He played [first-class cricket](/source/First_class_cricket) for [Victoria](/source/Victorian_Bushrangers) and [Tasmania](/source/Tasmanian_Tigers), and he was trapped [lbw](/source/Leg_before_wicket) by [Jim Laker](/source/Jim_Laker) to be the last dismissal of ten in an innings by the latter, at [Old Trafford](/source/Old_Trafford_Cricket_Ground) in 1956.

Maddocks was a [wicket-keeper](/source/Wicket-keeper). He vied with [Gil Langley](/source/Gil_Langley) for the position of Australian gloveman, replacing him when Langley was injured, although pressure from Langley, [Don Tallon](/source/Don_Tallon) and [Wally Grout](/source/Wally_Grout), some of Australia's finest glovemen, meant he only played 7 Tests. His career as a cricket administrator was marred by the 3–0 loss in the [1977 Ashes tour](/source/The_Ashes#1920_to_1933), and the [World Series Cricket](/source/World_Series_Cricket) split during his managerial reign of the [Australian cricket team](/source/Australian_cricket_team).[3]

A brother, [Richard](/source/Richard_Maddocks), and son, [Ian](/source/Ian_Maddocks), both played first-class cricket for Victoria. On the death of [Arthur Morris](/source/Arthur_Morris) on 22 August 2015, he became the oldest surviving Australian Test cricketer.[4]
