# Len Dugan

**Leonard Mark Dugan** (February 19, 1910 – June 20, 1967) was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) player who played four seasons in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) with the [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants), [Chicago Cardinals](/source/Chicago_Cardinals_(NFL,_1920%E2%80%9359)) and [Pittsburgh Pirates](/source/Pittsburgh_Pirates_(NFL)). He played [college football](/source/College_football) at [Wichita State University](/source/Wichita_State_University).

## Early life and college

Leonard Mark Dugan was born on February 19, 1910, in [Alton, Kansas](/source/Alton,_Kansas).[1] He attended McCracken High School in [McCracken, Kansas](/source/McCracken,_Kansas).[1]

Dugan was a member of the [Wichita State Shockers](/source/Wichita_State_Shockers_football) of [Wichita State University](/source/Wichita_State_University) from 1932 to 1935.[1]

## Professional career

Dugan went undrafted in the [1936 NFL draft](/source/1936_NFL_draft). He signed with the [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants) on August 3, 1936.[2] He played in three games, starting one, for the Giants during the 1936 season before being released that year.[3] Dugan also played in one game for the Paterson Panthers of the [American Association](/source/American_Association_(American_football)) in 1936.[1]

Dugan was signed by the [Chicago Cardinals](/source/Chicago_Cardinals) in 1937.[2] He appeared in all 11 games, starting five, for the Cardinals in 1937.[3] The team finished the year with a 5–5–1 record.[4] He played in eight games, starting three, during the 1938 season.[3] Dugan appeared in four games for the Cardinals in 1939.[3]

On November 1, 1939, it was reported that Dugan had been purchased from the Cardinals by the [Pittsburgh Pirates](/source/Pittsburgh_Pirates_(NFL)).[5] He broke his ankle on his first play as a Pirate and never played in the NFL again.[6][3]

## Personal life

Dugan served in the [United States Army](/source/United_States_Army).[1] He died on June 20, 1967, in [Olmsted County, Minnesota](/source/Olmsted_County,_Minnesota).[1]
