**Lembert Dome** is a [granite dome](/source/Granite_dome) [rock formation](/source/Rock_formations_in_the_United_States) in [Yosemite National Park](/source/Yosemite_National_Park) in the US state of [California](/source/California). The dome soars 800 feet (240 m) above [Tuolumne Meadows](/source/Tuolumne_Meadows) and the [Tuolumne River](/source/Tuolumne_River) and can be hiked starting at the [Tioga Road](/source/Tioga_Road) in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, 8 miles (13 km) west of the Tioga Pass Entrance to [Yosemite National Park](/source/Yosemite_National_Park). The landform is an example of a [rôche moutonnée](/source/R%C3%B4che_moutonn%C3%A9e)[4] with clear lee and stoss slopes.

Lembert Dome was named for John Baptist Lembert, sometimes erroneously spelled L**a**mbert, who took up a [homestead](/source/Homestead_principle) in a section of Tuolumne Meadows in 1885.[2][5][6] The [Wheeler Survey](/source/Wheeler_Survey) referred to it as Soda Springs Dome, and [John Muir](/source/John_Muir) called it Glacier Rock.[7]

Lembert Dome is near [Puppy Dome](/source/Puppy_Dome_(Yosemite)),[8] and is also close to [Dog Dome](/source/Dog_Dome_(Tuolumne)).[9]

[Rock climbers](/source/Rock_climber) can scale the face from the parking lot just off the Tioga Road, but [hikers](/source/Hiker) can simply walk up the back side or take the challenging steeper trek up the face starting from just east of the parking lot. Many technical free climbing routes have been put up.[3]
