# Lekbeshi

**Lekbeshi** (Nepali: लेकबेशी) is an urban [municipality](/source/List_of_cities_in_Nepal) located in [Surkhet District](/source/Surkhet_District) of [Karnali](/source/Karnali_Province) Province of [Nepal](/source/Nepal).[1]

The total area of the municipality is 180.92 square kilometres (69.85 sq mi) and the total population of the municipality as of [2011 Nepal census](/source/2011_Nepal_census) is 30,295 individuals. The municipality is divided into total 10 wards.[2]

The municipality was established on 10 March 2017, when [Government of Nepal](/source/Government_of_Nepal) restricted all old administrative structure and announced 744 local level units as per the new [constitution of Nepal 2015](/source/Constitution_of_Nepal_2015).[3][4]

[Lekhfarsa](/source/Lekhfarsa), [Dasarathpur](/source/Dasarathpur), [Neta](/source/Neta,_Bheri), [Kalyan](/source/Kalyan,_Nepal) and [Satokhani](/source/Satokhani) [Village development committees](/source/Village_development_committee_(Nepal)) were Incorporated to form this new municipality. The headquarters of the municipality is situated at [Kalyan](/source/Kalyan,_Nepal)[2]

## Demographics

At the time of the [2011 Nepal census](/source/2011_Nepal_census), Lekbeshi Municipality had a population of 31,583. Of these, 80.6% spoke [Nepali](/source/Nepali_language), 18.8% [Magar](/source/Magar_language), 0.2% [Chhantyal](/source/Chantyal_language), 0.2% [Gurung](/source/Gurung_language), 0.1% [Raji](/source/Raji_language) and 0.1% other languages as their first language.[5]

In terms of ethnicity/caste, 46.6% were [Magar](/source/Magars), 17.7% [Chhetri](/source/Chhetri), 14.9% [Kami](/source/Kami_(caste)), 10.5% [Hill Brahmin](/source/Bahun), 3.4% [Damai](/source/Damai)/Dholi, 1.4% [Thakuri](/source/Thakuri), 1.3% [Sarki](/source/Sarki_(ethnic_group)), 1.3% [Gurung](/source/Gurung_people), 0.6% [Badi](/source/Badi_people), 0.5% [Chhantyal](/source/Chhantyal), 0.4% Majhi, 0.4% Sanyasi/Dasnami, 0.2% other [Dalit](/source/Dalit), 0.2% [Thami](/source/Thami), 0.1% [Gaine](/source/Gandarbha), 0.1% [Newar](/source/Newar_people), 0.1% [Raji](/source/Raji_people), 0.1% [Tamang](/source/Tamang_people), 0.1% other Terai, 0.1% [Tharu](/source/Tharu_people) and 0.2% others.[6]

In terms of religion, 88.8% were [Hindu](/source/Hinduism_in_Nepal), 6.0% [Christian](/source/Christianity_in_Nepal), 5.0% [Buddhist](/source/Buddhism_in_Nepal) and 0.2% others.[7]

In terms of literacy, 76.1% could read and write, 2.3% could only read and 21.6% could neither read nor write.[8]
