# Leipsic River

The **Leipsic River** is a 16.7-mile (26.9-kilometre) [river](/source/River)[5] in central [Delaware](/source/Delaware) in the [United States](/source/United_States).

It rises in northern [Kent County](/source/Kent_County,_Delaware), approximately 8 miles (13 km) northwest of [Dover](/source/Dover,_Delaware). It flows generally east, past [Leipsic](/source/Leipsic,_Delaware) and entering [Delaware Bay](/source/Delaware_Bay) approximately 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Dover. The mouth of the river on Delaware Bay is surrounded by extensive [wetlands](/source/Wetlands) that are protected as part of [Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge](/source/Bombay_Hook_National_Wildlife_Refuge).
