'''Leihitu''', alternately called the '''Hitu Land''' ({{langx|id|Tanah Hitu}})<ref>{{cite journal|url=https://rumahjurnal.iainsasbabel.ac.id/taw/article/download/1244/464/|format=PDF|title=Aksiologi Nama Jazirah Leihitu (Pendidikan Keberagaman Masyarakat Muslim Tanah Hitu-Ambon)|language=id|journal=Tawshiyah|year=2017|publisher=STAIN Syaikh Abdurrahman Siddik Bangka Belitung|location=West Mendo|first=Hadarah|last=Rajab|volume=12|number=2|pages=18–41}}</ref> or the '''Leihitu Peninsula''' (Indonesian: ''Jazirah Leihitu'' or ''Semenanjung Leihitu''),<ref>{{cite web|url=https://ambon.antaranews.com/berita/87089/warga-jazirah-leihitu-ingin-mekar-dari-kabupaten-maluku-tengah|title=Warga jazirah Leihitu ingin mekar dari Kabupaten Maluku Tengah|website=ambon.antaranews.com|publisher=[Antara News](/source/Antara_News)|language=id|first=Daniel|last=Leonard|editor-first=Lexy|editor-last=Sariwating|access-date=16 December 2025|date=28 September 2020}}</ref> is the major portion of [Ambon Island](/source/Ambon_Island) in the [Maluku Province](/source/Maluku_Province) of [Indonesia](/source/Indonesia). It includes the larger share of the land area of the island, only excluding the Leitimur Peninsula which projects from the southeast corner of Leihitu, the two being separated — apart from a narrow isthmus linking them — by the extensive [Ambon Bay](/source/Ambon_Bay) on the west side of the isthmus and the much smaller Baguala Bay on the east side.

==Administrative division==
The southern side of Leihitu forms part of the area of [Ambon City](/source/Ambon%2C_Maluku), and faces the central part of that city across [Ambon Bay](/source/Ambon_Bay). The greater part of Leihitu (after excluding the part within the city) forms three of the administrative districts (''kelurahan'') of [Central Maluku Regency](/source/Central_Maluku_Regency) — Leihitu District in the north of the island, West Leithitu District (''Leithitu Barat'') in the southwest and Salahutu District in the northeast.

The three districts cover a land area of 383.92 km2 and had a combined population of 110,359 at the 2010 Census<ref>Biro Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2011.</ref> and 128,069 at the 2020 Census;<ref>Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2021.</ref> the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 128,754.<ref>Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2024.</ref>
