# Lehmanosteus

***Lehmanosteus*** is an [extinct](/source/Extinct) [monospecific](/source/Monospecific) [genus](/source/Genus) of [arthrodire](/source/Arthrodire) [placoderm](/source/Placoderm) fish, named after French paleontologist [Jean-Pierre Lehman](/source/Jean-Pierre_Lehman). The [type species](/source/Type_species) ***Lehmanosteus hyperboreus*** was [described](/source/Scientifically_described) in 1984, and was found in [Early Devonian](/source/Early_Devonian) strata of the [Wood Bay Formation](/source/Wood_Bay_Formation) on the island of [Spitsbergen](/source/Spitsbergen), [Svalbard](/source/Svalbard) in [Norway](/source/Norway).[1]

It is one of the more [basal](/source/Basal_(phylogenetics)) members of the [order](/source/Order_(biology)) [Arthrodira](/source/Arthrodira), as shown in the [cladogram](/source/Cladogram) below:
