'''Lee Spick''' (25 April 1980 – 26 January 2015) was an English professional snooker player. A former English under-15 champion, he reached the last 48 of ranking events on five occasions, including twice in the [World Championship](/source/World_Snooker_Championship).

==Career==
He reached the Quarter-Final of the [2000 Benson and Hedges Championship](/source/Masters_Qualifying_Event), with wins against [Darren Morgan](/source/Darren_Morgan) and [Dean Reynolds](/source/Dean_Reynolds), as well as others, before losing to [Mark Davis](/source/Mark_Davis_(snooker_player)) 4–5. He also reached the Quarter-Final of the 2001 event, beating the likes of World Championship runner-up [Nigel Bond](/source/Nigel_Bond), before losing out to future World Champion [Shaun Murphy](/source/Shaun_Murphy) 3–5

He reached the last 48 of the [2006 World Championship](/source/2006_World_Snooker_Championship) and the [2007 China Open](/source/2007_China_Open_(snooker)). Previously in the [2005 World Championship](/source/2005_World_Snooker_Championship) he had victories over [David Gilbert](/source/David_Gilbert_(snooker_player)) 10–5, before a remarkable 10–7 win over [Ding Junhui](/source/Ding_Junhui), which put him only 2 matches away from a place at the Crucible, but [Stuart Bingham](/source/Stuart_Bingham) denied him with a 10–2 victory. In the [2007 China Open](/source/2007_China_Open_(snooker)) he defeated Jeff Cundy, [Tony Drago](/source/Tony_Drago) and [Dominic Dale](/source/Dominic_Dale).

In the [2007 UK Championships](/source/2007_UK_Snooker_Championship) qualifying, he defeated [Jimmy White](/source/Jimmy_White) 9–7 in arguably one of the best results during his career, but he lost 8–9 to [Andrew Higginson](/source/Andrew_Higginson_(snooker_player)) in the following round.

At the [2008 China Open](/source/2008_China_Open_(snooker)), Spick defeated Ashley Wright, [Rod Lawler](/source/Rod_Lawler) and [Mark Davis](/source/Mark_Davis_(snooker_player)), before losing in the Last 48 to [Dave Harold](/source/Dave_Harold) 0–5.

[2008/09 season](/source/Snooker_season_2008%2F09) started relatively quiet for Spick. However, after recording impressive wins over [Stephen Craigie](/source/Stephen_Craigie) (10–5), [Barry Pinches](/source/Barry_Pinches) (10–5) and [Adrian Gunnell](/source/Adrian_Gunnell) (10–2), he was within one match of reaching the [Crucible](/source/Crucible_Theatre) for the first time in his career but lost narrowly 8–10 to [Steve Davis](/source/Steve_Davis). Spick seemed to carry that form into the next season, as he reached the last 48 stage of the [Shanghai Masters](/source/2010_Shanghai_Masters), however he failed to win a further match during the season and as a result was relegated from the tour.

After having missed the opportunities to return to main tour via the [2011](/source/2011_Q_School) and [2012 Q School](/source/2012_Q_School)s, Spick announced his retirement from snooker.<ref>{{cite web |title=Lee Spick announces retirement from snooker |website=Mansfield and Ashfield Chad |url=http://www.chad.co.uk/sport/lee-spick-announces-retirement-from-snooker-1-4633748 |access-date=26 May 2013 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130707015336/http://www.chad.co.uk/sport/other-sport/lee-spick-announces-retirement-from-snooker-1-4633748 |url-status=dead |archive-date=7 July 2013 }}</ref> However he decided to come try again at the [2013 Q School](/source/2013_Q_School), and at Event 3 he defeated Darrell Whitworth, [Sanderson Lam](/source/Sanderson_Lam), Darren Cook and [Duane Jones](/source/Duane_Jones_(snooker_player)) to win a two-year card for the [2013–14](/source/2013%E2%80%9314_snooker_season) and [2014–15](/source/2014%E2%80%9315_snooker_season) seasons. Spick's return proved to be short-lived however, as he only played two matches, losing both, and had multiple withdrawals due to lack of sponsorship and a resulting depression. He never entered another professional tournament after the [2013 UK Championship](/source/2013_UK_Championship).

===Illness and death===
[World Snooker](/source/World_Snooker) announced the death of Spick on 26 January 2015, after a liver-related illness.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.sportinglife.com/snooker/news/article/663/9681483/snookers-lee-spick-dies-aged-34|title=Snooker's Spick dies, aged 34|publisher=sportinglife.com|date=26 January 2015|access-date=26 January 2015|archive-date=29 January 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150129050122/http://www.sportinglife.com/snooker/news/article/663/9681483/snookers-lee-spick-dies-aged-34|url-status=dead}}</ref><ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/NewsArticles/0,,13165~4443030,00.html | title=Lee Spick Dies Age 34 | date=26 January 2015 | publisher=World Snooker | access-date=30 January 2015 }}</ref>
