**Lea Gabrielle** is a former U.S. Diplomat who served as the Special Envoy and Coordinator of the [Global Engagement Center](/source/Global_Engagement_Center_(GEC)) at the U.S. Department of State from 2019-2021. She formerly served in the United States Navy for twelve years as a combat naval aviator and intelligence officer. As a civilian, she worked as a journalist and correspondent for the [Fox News Channel](/source/Fox_News_Channel) and [NBC News](/source/NBC_News). In 2024 she was named vice president and general manager for the [Mount Snow](/source/Mount_Snow) ski resort.

## Early life and education

While attending [Mount Vernon High School](/source/Mount_Vernon_High_School_(Alexandria%2C_Virginia)) in [Fairfax County, Virginia](/source/Fairfax_County%2C_Virginia), Gabrielle was named a finalist in the [Westinghouse Science Talent Search](/source/Intel_Science_Talent_Search).[2][3] She is a 1997 graduate of the [United States Naval Academy](/source/United_States_Naval_Academy), earning a [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) in [mechanical engineering](/source/Mechanical_engineering). Entering the [active-duty](/source/Active-duty) Navy after graduation, Gabrielle attended the U.S. Navy Flight School at [Naval Air Station Pensacola](/source/Naval_Air_Station_Pensacola) in Florida from 1998 to 2000, earning her [Naval Aviator Wings](/source/United_States_naval_aviator). She is also qualified with an [instrument rating](/source/Instrument_rating) and as a commercial pilot.

She earned a master's degree in business administration from [Massachusetts Institute of Technology](/source/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology).[4]

## Career

She served in the [United States Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) for twelve years and was a [naval aviator](/source/Naval_aviator), flying the single-seat [F/A-18](/source/F%2FA-18) "Hornet," with combat deployment from [USS *George Washington*](/source/USS_George_Washington_(CVN-73)).[5] Her [call sign](/source/Call_sign) as a pilot was "Flower".[6] Additional duties were as a [landing signal officer](/source/Landing_signal_officer) (LSO) and as a squadron [public affairs officer](/source/Public_affairs_(military)).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] She also served as an intelligence operations officer during [Operation Enduring Freedom](/source/Operation_Enduring_Freedom),[7] and while in [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan), she was embedded with a [Navy SEAL](/source/Navy_SEAL) unit conducting [intelligence](/source/Intelligence) operations. She was also a defense foreign liaison officer.[8]

After leaving the navy, Gabrielle attended the [New York Film Academy](/source/New_York_Film_Academy) in 2009, receiving a digital journalism certificate.[9] She then worked for NBC News (2010-2011) in [Washington, D.C.](/source/Washington%2C_D.C.)[10] In September 2011, Gabrielle moved to [San Diego, California](/source/San_Diego%2C_California), and became a military reporter for [KNSD-TV](/source/KNSD-TV) (NBC 7), using the name Lea Sutton.[11] She joined [Fox News Channel](/source/Fox_News_Channel) in [New York City](/source/New_York_City) in December 2013.[10] She was also a reporter for *[Shepard Smith Reporting](/source/Shepard_Smith_Reporting).*[12]
