'''''Le Louis''''' was a French ship engaged in the [slave trade](/source/History_of_slavery) which was captured by {{HMS|Queen Charlotte|1810|6}}, of the [British](/source/British_Empire) [West Africa Squadron](/source/West_Africa_Squadron) on the 11 March 1816. She became the subject of a court case with repercussions for the [law of nations](/source/law_of_nations).

''Le Louis'' set sail from [Martinique](/source/Martinique) for [West Africa](/source/West_Africa) on 30 January 1816.<ref name="Bryant">{{cite book|last1=Bryant|first1=Jonathan M.|title=Dark Places of the Earth: The Voyage of the Slave Ship Antelope|date=2015|publisher=W. W. Norton & Company|location=New York}}</ref> She was sailing off [Cape Mesurado](/source/Cape_Mesurado), a place known for its role in the slave trade and which had been raided on the orders of Governor [William Maxwell](/source/Charles_William_Maxwell) in 1815. After an engagement which led to several deaths amongst both crews, she was captured by the British and taken to [Freetown](/source/Freetown), [Sierra Leone](/source/Sierra_Leone).
