# Lawrence Pope

**Lawrence Edgar Pope** (February 29, 1940 – May 22, 2013) was an American educator and politician.

Born in [Rockford, Illinois](/source/Rockford,_Illinois), Pope grew up in [Des Moines, Iowa](/source/Des_Moines,_Iowa). He received his bachelors and law degrees from [Drake University](/source/Drake_University). He practiced law, was a lobbyist, and was a law professor at [Drake University Law School](/source/Drake_University_Law_School). He served in the [Iowa House of Representatives](/source/Iowa_House_of_Representatives) as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) 1979–1983. He died in Des Moines, Iowa.[1][2]
