For other places named Lava Lake (disambiguation), see [Lava Lake (disambiguation) (disambiguation)](/source/Lava_Lake_(disambiguation)_(disambiguation)).

The **Lava Lakes** are a group of small lakes at the head of [Lava Fork](/source/Lava_Fork) in the [Boundary Ranges](/source/Boundary_Ranges) of northwestern [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), [Canada](/source/Canada).[1]

[The Volcano](/source/The_Volcano_(British_Columbia)), a [cinder cone](/source/Cinder_cone) about 5 km (3.1 mi) north of the British Columbia-Alaska border above the eastern shore of the Lava Lakes, is the source for lava flows that overwhelm the lakes.[2] These lava flows dam and form the lakes, hence giving their name.
