'''Lautite''' is a rare [mineral](/source/mineral)<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lautite|title=Definition of LAUTITE}}</ref> belonging to the class of [sulfide](/source/sulfide)s and [sulfosalts](/source/sulfosalt_minerals) with the general formula CuAsS. It is [orthorhombic](/source/orthorhombic) and is known to form up to 2.3 cm long prismatic or flat crystals. It is also found as grains or masses.

First identified by [Friedrich August Frenzel](/source/Friedrich_August_Frenzel) in 1880 in the Rudolphschacht mine near [Lauta](/source/Lauta_(Marienberg)) in Saxony, it was named after its [type locality](/source/type_locality_(geology)).<ref>Frenzel, A. (1880). XIX. Mineralogisches. Zeitschrift für Kristallographie, Mineralogie und Petrographie, 3(6), 504-516.</ref>

Lautite is formed in veins under [hydrothermal](/source/hydrothermal) conditions at medium temperatures. Depending on the locality it is found accompanied by [arsenic](/source/arsenic), [tennantite](/source/tennantite), [proustite](/source/proustite), [chalcopyrite](/source/chalcopyrite), [galenite](/source/galenite), and [baryte](/source/baryte) (in the type locality); by [kutinaite](/source/kutinaite) and [paxite](/source/paxite) (in [Nieder-Beerbach](/source/Nieder-Beerbach)); or by arsenic, [bismuth](/source/bismuth), tennantite, [loellingite](/source/loellingite), [rammelsbergite](/source/rammelsbergite), proustite, and [quartz](/source/quartz) (in [Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines](/source/Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines)).

Aside from the type locality, the mineral is found in other places in the [Ore Mountains](/source/Ore_Mountains), in [Sankt Andreasberg](/source/Sankt_Andreasberg) in the [Harz](/source/Harz) mountains, Nieder-Beerbach in the [Odenwald](/source/Odenwald), [Hausach](/source/Hausach), [Schenkenzell](/source/Schenkenzell), and [Titisee-Neustadt](/source/Titisee-Neustadt) in the [Black Forest](/source/Black_Forest), [Flatschach](/source/Flatschach) in [Austria](/source/Austria), [Isérables](/source/Is%C3%A9rables) in [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland), [Cochrane](/source/Cochrane_District) in [Canada](/source/Canada), [Luqu](/source/Luqu) and [Zoigê](/source/Zoig%C3%AA) in [China](/source/PR_China), [Sirohi](/source/Sirohi_district) in [India](/source/India), [Takab](/source/Takab) in [Iran](/source/Iran), [Kombat](/source/Kombat) in [Namibia](/source/Namibia) and [Coconino County](/source/Coconino_County%2C_Arizona) in [Arizona](/source/Arizona), US.
