**Laurie Lynd** (born May 19, 1959) is a Canadian film and television director and screenwriter, best known as the director of the feature film *[Breakfast with Scot](/source/Breakfast_with_Scot)*.[1]

Born in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), [Ontario](/source/Ontario), Lynd made the short films *Together and Apart* (1986) and *[RSVP](/source/RSVP_(1991_film))* (1991) early in his career. The latter of which was cited by film critic [B. Ruby Rich](/source/B._Ruby_Rich) in her influential 1992 essay on the emergence of [New Queer Cinema](/source/New_Queer_Cinema).[2] He then attended the [Canadian Film Centre](/source/Canadian_Film_Centre),[3] making the short film *[The Fairy Who Didn't Want to Be a Fairy Anymore](/source/The_Fairy_Who_Didn't_Want_to_Be_a_Fairy_Anymore)* (1992)[4] and the feature film *[House](/source/House_(1995_film))* (1995)[5] while studying at that institution; he was also credited as the producer of [John Greyson](/source/John_Greyson)'s CFC project *[The Making of Monsters](/source/The_Making_of_Monsters)*.

After his graduation from the CFC, he concentrated primarily on television directing,[3] including the television films *Sibs* and *Open Heart*, and episodes of *[Degrassi](/source/Degrassi%3A_The_Next_Generation)*, *[Queer as Folk](/source/Queer_as_Folk_(North_American_TV_series))*, *[I Was a Rat](/source/I_Was_a_Rat_(TV_series))*, *[Noah's Arc](/source/Noah's_Arc_(TV_series))* and *[Ghostly Encounters](/source/Ghostly_Encounters)*.

*Breakfast with Scot*, his second feature film, was released in 2007. His subsequent television work has included *[Forensic Factor](/source/Forensic_Factor)*, *[Baxter](/source/Baxter_(TV_series))*, *[Murdoch Mysteries](/source/Murdoch_Mysteries)*, *[Good Witch](/source/Good_Witch_(TV_series))*, *[Schitt's Creek](/source/Schitt's_Creek)* and *[The Adventures of Napkin Man](/source/The_Adventures_of_Napkin_Man)*.

In 2010 he released the short film *Verona*, which recast *[Romeo and Juliet](/source/Romeo_and_Juliet)* as a romance between two gay university athletes from rival fraternities.[6]

In 2019 he released the documentary film *[Killing Patient Zero](/source/Killing_Patient_Zero)*.[7]
