**Launde Big Wood** is a 41.1 hectares (102 acres) biological [Site of Special Scientific Interest](/source/Site_of_Special_Scientific_Interest) east of [Leicester](/source/Leicester).[1][2] It is part of [Launde Woods](/source/Launde_Woods) nature reserve, which is owned by the Leicester [Diocesan Board of Finance](/source/Diocesan_Board_of_Finance) and managed by the [Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust](/source/Leicestershire_and_Rutland_Wildlife_Trust).[3]

This wood on heavy clay is dominated by [ash](/source/Fraxinus_excelsior), and in some areas by [wych elm](/source/Wych_elm). The ground layer has flora typical of ancient clay woods, such as [bluebell](/source/Endymion_non-scriptus), [forget-me-not](/source/Myosotis_sylvatica), [yellow archangel](/source/Yellow_archangel) and [giant bellflower](/source/Giant_bellflower).[4]

There is access to the site by a public footpath.
