# Laugo Alien

Semi-automatic pistol

**Laugo Arms Alien** is a [semi-automatic pistol](/source/Semi-automatic_pistol) in [9×19 mm](/source/9%C3%9719mm_Parabellum) manufactured by the Czech company *Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia*. Launched at [IWA OutdoorClassics](/source/IWA_OutdoorClassics) in 2019,[1][2][3] it won [*Recoil Magazine's*](/source/Recoil_(magazine)) top award at [SHOT Show](/source/SHOT_Show) 2020.[4] It has combined several radical design features having a fixed barrel, gas-delayed blowback and non-reciprocating top sight rail.[5][6]

## History

Ján Lučanský started the development of the pistol around 2013,[7] and holds patents for this pistol.[8] The company Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia was founded by Ján Lučánský together with former marketing director of [Česká Zbrojovka](/source/Colt_CZ_Group) Ondřej Poděl and investor Daniel Selichar.[7][9] In 2021, Ján Lučanský and Ondřej Poděl sold their share in the company.[10]

In 2023, agents of the [Security Service of Ukraine](/source/Security_Service_of_Ukraine) escorting president [Volodymyr Zelenskyy](/source/Volodymyr_Zelenskyy) and [HUR](/source/Main_Directorate_of_Intelligence_(Ukraine)) chief [Kyrylo Budanov](/source/Kyrylo_Budanov) were seen using Laugo Alien pistols during a visit to [Snake Island](/source/Snake_Island_(Ukraine)). ## Technical

The Alien has a [gas-delayed](/source/Blowback_(firearms)#Gas-delayed) mechanism and a fixed barrel which enables good precision,[12] a low [bore axis](/source/Bore_axis) for less barrel lift and an internal [slide](/source/Pistol_slide) which means that the sights remain stationary to the barrel during firing, which results in less negative recoil and thereby longer lifespan for [reflex sights](/source/Red_dot_sight). The grip angle on the first models had a large [rake angle](/source/Rake_(angle)) (much like the Glock or Luger), but since 2023 the grip angle has been more similar to the [Colt 1911](/source/M1911_pistol).[13]
